Parasites

Dun dun dunn!! “Parasite!? Apologize!”

*Disclaimer: this is not a research paper with sources and proper terminology; this is a beginner-friendly, broken-down explanation of parasites backed by research.

What are parasites?

Parasites are something most people have, but no one talks about. So what are parasites? They are small organisms that live inside another organism, or “host,” and feed off the host’s nutrition. There are microscopic, single-celled parasites, worms, and parasites that live on the outside of the host. Parasites can cause a “host” of issues. Iritability, depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, teeth grinding, trouble focusing… the list goes on.

How do we get parasites?

Parasites are quite literally everywhere. It is speculated that 1 in 3 people carry protaza, a single-celled parasite, in their bodies. The following are common ways parasites are acquired:

  • Consuming undercooked, contaminated meat
  • Contact with cat feces
  • Sexual contact with a contaminated person
  • Consuming unwashed produce or contaminated water
  • Failing to wash hands after using the bathroom, changing diapers, touching pets (as well as coming into oral contact with something touched by someone who hasn’t washed their hands)
  • And stepping on contaminated feces

How do we get rid of parasites?

For severe cases, antiparasitics can be prescribed by doctors after a diagnosis. Ivermectin is available over the counter. There are natural detoxes available online that use herbs like oregano oil, garlic, black walnut hull, pumpkin seed, cloves, and wormwood to create a toxic environment for the parasites. However, using natural methods will take longer and requires dedicated consistency. Avoid processed foods, refined sugar, foods likely to harbor parasites, and other factors that can lower your immune response. Creating an environment that does not support your immune system leaves you susceptible to numerous ailments and makes a parasite cleanse much less effective. Eat lots of foods to support your cleanse, such as pineapple and garlic.
