Listen there are plenty of cloth diaper detergents out there but they are way overpriced and you can’t truly know what is in them. We all should be aware of the dangerous chemicals and hormone disrupters in popular liquid detergents and anything with “fragrance”; However, what are we supposed to do about it?
This is a hodgepodge of recipes on Pinterest that I found and I LOVE using this for all of my laundry, not just cloth diapers. My baby is so sensitive to fabrics and detergents, after visitation I had to put milk on rashes for the longest time. Even being held by people who used other detergents caused breakouts and the “Dreft” or more accurately, poison, caused some really bad rashes. After I started using homemade detergent on all of my laundry we had no more breakouts at home!
Using household items you can make an effective laundry detergent.
- Baking Soda
- Washing Soda
- Epsom Salt
- A natural salt (Sea, Himalayan, Celtic)
- Optional: essential oils
Once you have the above ingredients get a large glass container. They have some super cute detergent jars on Amazon and at Walmart, if you can, try to support a local store 🙂
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 cup washing soda
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt
- 1/3 cup salt
- Essential oils to preference
These are the ratios I would triple the batch to fill up my container.
Combine in a jar and happy washing! It is 1-2 Tbs per load and I like to use 3-4 Tbs for really dirty loads. It leaves my clothes smelling fresh, free of harsh chemicals and SO soft! I hope you enjoy this recipie as much as I have! If you try it out let me know 🙂
